Okafor’s Law movie - copyright infringed

Raconteaur Productions Limited v Dioni Visions Entertainment, Omoni Oboli & Anor “Okafor’s Law” Movie premiere - Copyright Infringement (motion picture)

A Federal High Court in Lagos on 24 March 2017 issued an interim order, suspending the release and launch of the movie "Okafor’s Law". The court also issued an Anton Piller order directing the seizure of alleged infringing materials. The movie was produced and directed by a popular Nollywood Producer, Omoni Oboli.

The suit was brought by Raconteaur Productions Limited on behalf of one, Jude Idada, a Canada-based writer, who claimed that Oboli’s movie was developed from his work without giving him credit or remuneration.

The movie which was billed for premiere on March 24 2017, in Lagos, was cancelled as a result of the court order. However, on 30 March, the court vacated the interim order based on a motion on notice by the defendants. It therefore set the hearing for the substantive suit to early April.
